I’m home before Mick, as I often am, but lately his working hours have become shorter and shorter. He’d told me once if he left the office by seven, he was lucky. Now, he’s normally home by six.

I don’t know how to face him, how to even begin the conversation we should most likely have. Prepping myself, I’m ready. The words trickle from my brain the second the doorknob wiggles, and I break out in a cold sweat. In my fear, I bolt back to my room. I guess I don’t really want to eat tonight. I crawl into my bed, and when the creak of the door sounds, I fake my tiredness. But I don’t have to fake for long, and soon I’m asleep.

It’s pitch black when my eyes open, and one look over at my alarm clock tells me I’ve been asleep for five hours. Shit! As much as I’d like to hide in my room, my hungry stomach won’t allow me to. I pop my head out of the bedroom door, and it’s dark. Mick normally doesn’t head to bed before eleven, but I’m hopeful that at ten, he’s redirected his routine. Turning the corner from the hall to the kitchen, a small light is still on, and I pad over to the fridge.

I’m hooked around the elbow and swung backward, and my heart beats a mile a minute. He leans down and places his normal peck on my forehead, and I let him hold me a little tighter. “You okay, Bia? You’ve been asleep for a while.”

His arms encase me, but this isn’t weird, not at all. Well, minus the part I’ve had sex with my best friend but—the holding me isn’t too off course.

“Yeah, just tired.” It’s the fucking truth, too, since I’d been barely able to sleep after the three orgasms he’d given me just last night.

“Is that all?” He wants to ask more, but like me, he doesn’t.

“Yeah, I promise.” I back away from his touch, moving like a hungry girl on a mission.

“There’s leftover pizza from last night, I left you some on a plate.”

I’m in the fridge already, grabbing for it, placing it in the microwave. “Thanks, Mick, for thinking of me.” I twist my body around, willing myself to look at him when a small grin falls on his face.

“Hey, I’m heading to bed.” He walks away, but not before adding, “I hope to see you later.” It’s the same thing he said to me last night, and I’m curious if this is a hint.
